Campaign Audiences
When you set up a campaign, you must first define the potential audience of people you want to target. This could be a specific segment of people, or everyone in your customer database who is contactable. The audience is potential because after the campaign starts, recipients could be filtered out in the campaign flow, be suppressed for sender reputation reasons, or they could opt out of receiving communications.
Audiences are comprised of Inclusion segments and Exclusion segments. Campaigns must contain at least one inclusion segment, or you can select all records in your customer database. Exclusions are optional, but you will normally exclude people that have opted out of marketing communications, or are not contactable for other reasons.
Inclusions are the pool of people you would like to include in the audience. Exclusions are the pool of people that will be excluded from the audience. The Total Audience count comprises Total Inclusions minus any people that are in your Exclusion segments.
Audience elements are used to define an audience. An Audience element appears automatically as the first element in any campaign. When the campaign starts, the audience is calculated immediately and passes on to the next connected element in the campaign flow.
You can create and edit audience segments in the following ways:
- Use Segment Builder to create segment documents that can be used in multiple campaigns.
- From within a campaign - the segment exists in that campaign only, unless copied to the Segment Library.
